Is the resentment of our club in the AFL unique?
There us a lot of negativity from "traditional" AFL areas that much is clear. It's not universal, and probably a minority but strong in some.
I get a lot of it is the club has dared to be good at what it does. This means GC is somewhat off the radar until they perform consistently. Which BTW I think is inevitable at some point.
It does get tiresome for me at times, and the vibe at the PF was spiteful from the Bulldogs supporters, less so from the Swans at the QF from my perception.
Interestingly posting with a serious old time WC supporter I heard stories of wind socks being removed at Melbourne grounds, and no hot water in the changeroom showers in their early days.
I think it will be interesting in the next few years to see what happens. I guess you could easily say who cares if we win flags and are successful.
There is some risk too much whining could motivate the AFL to take, or limit the Academy though. Possibly other steps to control us as well. I think we have support where it matters but ultimately the AFL administration might feel obliged to respond.

pure jealousy from the Melbourne clubs. I guess people are jealous at how quick we've been able to get to the level that we currently are, unlike GC

I think we have to accept the academy will be shrunk and the Riverina removed probably as soon as we are luck and good enough to win a flag or consistently be in finals. Though there is nothing else they can do considering we have the same cap and lists size as all others and we don't have F/S. As for the resentment? Meh they are pathetic and I love riling them up. They have had almost 100 years to get their act together and a few haven't. They deserve the humiliation that is coming, especially Mutts eh Bok?
