Looks like the Riverina zone will be staying, according to the Hun.
God, those tears will be extra salty today.

Looks like the Riverina zone will be staying, according to the Hun. God, those tears will be extra salty today. Looks like some changes are in the works www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...-new-draft-academy-rules-20170202-gu3s0j.htmlGreater Western Sydney have scored another victory against the AFL and now look certain to retain their contentious Riverina academy zone and, specifically, Albury. Fairfax Media understands that despite reports the Giants would lose Albury, head office will resist the push from the powerful Victorian clubs lobby and instead redesign and equalise the academy draft pick system across the competition. Under the proposed new system, the preliminary finalists Giants in the 2016 national draft would have been restricted to just one top-20 academy player. The club, much to the angst of some traditional clubs, drafted three top-20 players of its four new academy stars in Will Setterfield (pick No. 5), Harry Perryman (14) and Isaac Cumming (20). The AFL would allow top-four clubs access to just one academy player in the first 20 draft picks. Clubs finishing fifth to eighth would be allowed two top-20 academy picks while non-finals teams would be unrestricted. There would be no restrictions on academy players outside the top 20 of the national draft with the same rules set to apply to the newly established multicultural academies. Click to expand... Also The AFL is also expected to redesign the draft discount system looking at reducing the 20 per cent discount currently applied to matching first round bids with a view to lowering that discount to 10 per cent or removing it altogether while still allowing clubs to match bids.
